Yosemite!!! Loved it!!! Only 125 miles from Sequoia so we arrived early.
The route we drove was limited to vehicles not exceeding 22 ft. -- we barely qualified. There are some serious mountains and roads there.
Yosemite is a very large place with altitudes over 9,000 ft and all the roads are up hill or down hill with very sharp turns and curves. We saw Half Dome in Yosemite Valley. The park has 200 miles of paved road and over 800 miles of hiking trails. We drove to Glacier Point for more beautiful scenery, and then found out Glacier Point was for hiking, so we turned around and drove an hour back, although we had great views of Yosemite Valley.
We took the Valley View drive which gave us many excellent views of El Capitan and from there we toured a lodge I’ve wanted to go to since my cousin, Ray, told me about it. The Ahwahnee Lodge -- we had a late afternoon snack while there. The Lodge was completed in 1927 at a cost of $1,225,000 final cost. In 1927, that was a LOT of money. It was a very nice experience to be there since it too, is a part of history. NOTE: Squirrels came inside the restaurant since doors and windows are open to enjoy the weather and views. Those squirrels seemed to replace the vacuum cleaner. You could tell they were used to coming inside.
From there we took Tioga Road and saw Olmstead Point and many scenic views along the drive with pull outs along the way to take pictures of all the beauty.
We exited the park on the east side side and were then in Inyo National Forest. It was beautiful too and had a breathtaking view of Mono Lake.
During our tour in the parks, we experience altitude of 9,892 ft.
