Sequoia Park

Drove to Bakersfield, California and stayed overnight.

Next day we drove toward Sequoia National Park thru the winding, curvy roads -- driving on the edge and Sandy griping the arm rest on the door. Archie found that very funny.  Got to the camp site, Potwisha Campground, our first camp inside the park, at a temperature of 97 degrees and it was quite crowded with most families pitching tents --- there were only a few RVs.  When it got dark, the camp fires were glowing all around.   I was quite surprised to learn the Park Service allowed fires since everything is dry.

The Ranger told us they only had one bear inside the campground that day.   What?????  Ranger told us to to put our food in the bear box near our camp site.  Since we were in an RV, we only needed to hide anything that looked like food to the bear.  I did a good job of that!!  Later I found hand lotion and lip balm in the refrigerator and still haven’t found the sunscreen.

Tee hee!!  We got to use the lantern that Archie told me not to bring as we had no utilities in the park.

As high up as we were after a cool night, the next morning around 11:30, the temperature had gotten to 73 degrees.  Just wonderful and such a beautiful day.

The second day in the park, we were well into the Sequoias.  They are beautiful even though there had been fire damage.

We saw “General Sherman” after a very long walk to view him.   He is the largest tree in the world and of course, is a Sequoia.  Someone took our picture with General Sherman so we could both be in it, as you will see.

That night, we stayed at a free campsite inside the forest with no Ranger protection -- everyone chose their own campsite.   It was REALLY dark!!!  No one around.   Still hiding things from the bears.

By 4:00 a.m. the next day we were having coffee in our camper and ready to head toward Yosemite.
