Saturday, July 28, uneventful trip to Amarillo where we spent the night at the "Overnite RV Park. Let me add that RV parks are very interesting -- even the people who run them are interesting and always nice and "friendly".
While we were in Amarillo, Michael called and said to be sure and try to eat a 72 oz. steak at the Big Texan Steak Ranch. We didn't try to eat a huge steak, but did eat a steak.
There is a lot of excitement "in" and "around" that place. There is a giant statue of a bull outside. As we walked up to the porch, water was misting everyone in an effort to cool down. After getting inside and noticing everyone dressed in their western gear, our waiter came to take our drink order.
He was a very, very young fella and very small in stature...dressed in a little western shirt with a sheriff badge and a western hat. He first told us "we had to hurry" because they seated us and a table of six at the same time --- and he thought he was going to get to go home. We laughed and Archie said, "you can handle it...I've got confidence in you". The little guy said he could handle it and he proceeded to the table of six to tell them the same story. They were in as much disbelief as we were, and like us, they laughed too. Only difference is that the man at the table of six went to the manager. All of a sudden a girl showed up at our table with a big big smile saying she would be serving us. Fine with us. Then the little guy came back and said the manager was mad at him for some reason and someone else would be waiting on us. The food was good and during our meal, the manager and a couple of other people came by to see if everything was alright. Never had so many people come by our table for one meal just to "check on us".
