“Get your kicks on Route 66.....”We drove Route 66 between Seligman and Kingman. Approximately 160 miles. They have Burma Shave signs --- remember those. They used to keep us entertained on the road. ha, ha. They still do. We didn’t get pictures of a series of signs that said, “If Daisies are your favorite flower --- Keep pushin’ up --- those miles per hour.” Burma Shave. They’re silly, but fun! After a rather lengthy section of open road, we came up to a town that has capitalized on historic Route 66. The town was renovated to show what you would expect to see on Route 66 decades ago. The town of Seligman -- actually had tour buses and lots of people crossing the street to get to the “best thing” and taking pictures and going in shops. With one exception, the remainder of this section of Route 66 was in decay. Sad to see, but interesting nonetheless. There was a man taking almost the same photos we were and we visited with him a bit. He had traveled the entire length of Route 66 taking photographs and notes every year since 1996 of the original Route 66. Archie suggested to him that he probably had enough pictures to write a book and he said he had no plans to do that, but knew every author who had and he has contributed to their books. He said that since he has been traveling the Route on an annual basis, he can see big changes from the time he started until now.Archie wants to put traveling Route 66 in his “Bucket List”.
