Santa Fe New Mexico

Sunday, July 29, driving from Amarillo to Santa Fe, with the wind blowing like crazy.  Sure slowed us down a lot.

On that drive, we saw a "motorcycle gang".  Not sure if it was a gang or a club, but one had a braid that almost reached his seat...of the bike that is.   Several large groups passed us on the I-40, but one of the groups of four bikes and a pickup chase car had passed us and as it turned out, were at the same remote gas station where we stopped to fix lunch.

They had taken all four gas pumps, filled their tanks and were sitting under the trees to rest.   That's fine -- they probably needed a rest after being on those "hogs" all day.   But...while they were resting, four family cars and an 18 wheeler drove up and sat waiting for them to move.  They wouldn't!!!  Eventually, everyone left without getting any fuel and it looked as if one man had asked them to move.  He was really mad.  Didn't seem to matter that he was mad, because they still didn't move.  I wonder if the owner knows how many sales he lost during that episode.  Probably not.  We were in our RV and so we had a good view.

In Santa Fe, we stayed at the Trailer Ranch-- for people over 55.   Even the dogs were old, but they were friendly.  While in Santa Fe, we went to the old downtown square to listen to a live band.

Saw the Loretto Chapel at the end of Old Santa Fe Trail -- this is where the staircase is referred to as miraculous.  It has confounded architects, engineers and master craftsmen.  It makes two complete 360-degree turns, stands 20' tall and has no center support.  I believe it was built in 1848 -- it is quite beautiful
